Masters Games

Masters Games is an annual event being held this year for the 10th time on Saturday 15th October 2011. This day is an opportunity to invite friends, family and workmates to a day of sport with the intention of building relationships and community. Churches are able to enter teams into twenty-four different sport options over the day that are split up into 3 sessions, there is certainly something for everyone. Participants can choose to be as active or passive as the like with options of netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton through to lawn bowls, scrabble, bocce and even uno. In the evening there is a presentation dinner to acknowledge winning teams and reflect on a great day by watching the Masters Games DVD footage that has been captured throughout the event. For those aged 28 years and over this is a great event that you will want to put in your calendar every year. “Masters Games is a fantastic opportunity to invite friends, neighbours or workmates to join in a one-day fun, social (and ‘slightly competitive’) event. There is a choice of active events such as volleyball, basketball or passive ones, like chess, ‘power’ scrabble or a game of pool. You can elect to do a sport in each of three sessions or do just one, whatever your choice, you will be glad you did. At the end of the day, you can relax in the company of fellow weary competitors, share a few stories to celebrate a great day with a yummy dinner, presentations and watching the Games video. As a long time Masters Gamer, I look forward to each Master Games as there are new sports to try out and new people to meet. Team Warwick is looking forward to the 2011 Masters Games, we will out there again in force enjoying the competition but more importantly, building relationships and having a lot of fun.”

“The catch cry for our church is “Changing Lives” and we believe strongly that we have a responsibility to connect with the community, our workmates, neighbours and relations in a way that can help them to see the love of Jesus in our lives. Masters Games is an event that allows us to bring people into a non threatening environment that allows them to have a heap of fun, but at the same time helps them to see that Christians actually “walk the talk”, where Christians can display the character of God in the way the conduct themselves in a social atmosphere. We need to build the relationships and show that we care, before we tell them why we care, and that’s why I love the Masters Games because it creates one of the best opportunities where we can really get alongside the people that we are praying for, and to introduce them to our Christian friends. Masters Games has become a key date on my calendar and I encourage all Christians to make use of this great mission field.”
