Churches of Christ Sport and Recreation Association Inc has been operating since 1991 and was formed out of a long term association between Churches of Christ in Western Australia and the sports of Basketball and Netball. The Association was incorporated prior to a joint venture with the then City of Wanneroo to build the Warwick Leisure Centre. Warwick Leisure Centre has been the trading and operational centre of the organisation and we are currently operating with some 375 teams in Sports (Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Tennis, Badminton) and some 70 Leisure Courses per term. All of this adds up to a potential ministry field of some 5000 people per week.
Local Churches in Local Communities Our philosophy of Sport and Leisure Ministry refers everything we do back to the local church in the local community in which they "live and move and have their being". We are simply incapable, with a permanent staff of only 6, to "do ministry" with 5000 people a week. We are therefore committed to building operational partnerships with local churches where we facilitate programs and they infiltrate those programs with the saving Grace of God. That can happen in a number of ways:
Internships: CCSRA Inc is committed to a process of providing grants of money and training to local churches who are passionate about touching their community for Christ through Sport and Recreation.... either at/with the Warwick Leisure Centre or remotely in other competitions in other stadiums, or from the local church hall or car park. Interns are appointed for 12 months and undertake a Certificate IV in Youth Ministry with a sports outreach focus. The training is conducted in partnership with the Youth Vision training program "Activate".
Operational Partnerships at Warwick Leisure Centre: Partner with us within our normal run of training and competitive sessions. The Saturday Westchurch competition is our traditional "ministry" program, where people are registered for the competition through local churches. The churches then field a range of teams and work with and within those teams. Basketball and Netball teams are ideal for building relationships!
